Don takes part in the Alzheimer Society of B.C. walk

Thanks to the thousands in 23 BC communities who took part in the Alzheimer Society of B.C. walk today. Adrian Dix, Anne Kang, George Heyman and I were delighted to March For Alzheimer’s.

It was also great to see the NDP government announce $2.7 million in funding to the Society to support First Link, the program that assists those living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia connect to the services they need.

Supporting First Link is part of the BC NDP’s plan to strengthen seniors care in B.C. This includes a historic investment of $1.048 billion to improve care for seniors, including:

✅$75 million over the next three years to expand respite care adult day programs and
✅$240 million by 2021 to increase direct care hours for seniors to an average of 3.36 hours per patient per day
✅More educational spaces for health-care assistants are being created in 11 post-secondary institutions across B.C.
✅Fair workplace legislation to support better continuity of care for seniors will improve with improved job security and stability for health care staff.

Thanks again to the many volunteers across #BC who made today a success!
