October 1: Public Meeting on Cannabis Legalization

Date: Sunday, October 1
Time: 3pm
Location: Lakewood Room, Trout Lake Community Centre (3360 Victoria Drive)

A message from Don:

As most Canadians know, the Liberal government has introduced legislation in the House of Commons to legalize recreational cannabis possession and use in Canada. This is in the form of two bills.

Bill C-45 is the major piece that deals with the bulk of issues, including age limits, possession amounts, cultivation parameters and packaging and labelling, among others. Bill C-46 deals with necessary amendments to the Criminal Code to deal with impaired driving.

Bill-C45 has been referred to the Health Committee. As the federal NDP Health Critic and Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Health, I had the opportunity to study this legislation and hear from witnesses who appeared before the Committee in September.

I would like to invite Vancouver Kingsway residents to a public meeting to examine the details of Bill C-45, discuss the implications and, most importantly, hear your views.

I look forward to receiving your input as we shape this important legislation. If you cannot attend the Town Hall, please feel free to call or write me at any time.
